Trempealeau National Wildlife Refuge – Spring Events

Trempealeau National Wildlife Refuge invites you to enjoy the beauty of spring by joining in on one of these events.

Volunteer Orientation and Recruitment Open House
Join us for a Volunteer Meet and Greet! Volunteers help with a variety of tasks from greeting visitors, assisting with biological surveys, helping maintenance staff, offering interpretation programs, and more! During the open house we will discuss volunteer opportunities and how you can get involved! This is also an opportunity for returning volunteers to update their paperwork. We will have a volunteer orientation at the top of the hour every hour starting at 1:00 pm, with the last orientation biggening at 5:00 pm.
When: Friday April 24, 2026, 2:00 pm – 6:00 pm

World Migratory Bird Day
Each year the Refuge celebrates WMBD to encourage support for migratory bird conservation. The theme for this year’s installment of the annual celebration is “Every Bird Counts – Your Observations Matter!”. Join us for a few hours or for the whole celebration!  

When: Saturday May 9, 2026, festival runs from 7:00 am – 12:30 pm

Artists Along the Trail – Plein Air Event

Come celebrate National Trails Day with us! Over a dozen artists will be set up creating plein-air art along trails at the refuge. Visitors are encouraged to engage with the participating artists creating plein-air art from 7:00 – 11:00 am and see their creative process. Visitors are invited to the Outdoor Wonders Learning Center from 11:30 am – 1:00 pm where artists will set up their easels to share their morning work. Snacks and beverages will be provided.

When: Saturday June 6, 2026, event runs from 7:00 am – 1:00 pm

Many Artists from the refuge event will be displaying their artwork in the Crush Pad at Elmaro Vineyard & Winery during the Month of June.

 


Family Nature Walk

Join Nora & Delaney from Happy Dancing Turtle for a guided nature walk, in partnership with the Trempealeau National Wildlife Refuge! Meet other nature-loving families & individuals as we take a leisurely hour(ish) walk. We’ll observe the many signs of spring, listen for the spring chorus of frogs & birds, learn some fun facts, & take an evening to appreciate all the gifts from nature as we celebrate Earth Day! Meeting location is dependent on weather, conditions, & phenology. Sign up for FREE & the meeting spot will be sent to you!
